On
Saturday Evening, June 12, 2004, The 11th Annual
ReggaeSoca Music Awards kicked of at 8 PM sharp
in the beautiful 2500 seat Au Rene Theater at the Broward Performing Arts Center
in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It's the second year for the Awards in this
beautiful theater. After a brief introduction to the evening by co-host
and Jamaican humorist, Charles Hyatt, the ever ready FAB 5 revved up the riddum
to backup Half Pint for the first of a night filled with high energy musical
performances.
Fae
Ellington and Charles Hyatt took over the stage as the applause from the quickly
filling house faded out (many fans were shocked again this year as the show
started within seconds of 8 PM). Fae has been a host of the show
since year one and she and Charles hosted last year's show (along with Razor who
got cut this year).
Fae
Ellington is an actress and broadcaster who lectures around the world and serves
as the Chairperson of the Entertainment Advisory Board in Jamaica. Charles
Hyatt is a Jamaican legend who has appeared in film, stage and television and
has fans around the world. Following
some very funny bits of banter between Fae and Charles, the first presenters
were announced and to award one of the night's top honors to VP's
Strictly The Best 31as
Various Artists - Reggae Album of the Year.
The
voice of local radio sales ace and frequent MC, Abdul Mushin, next announced the
arrival on stage of The Jacobs Family for a hot stepper exhibition of Jamaican
dancing styles from Ska to hip-hop dancehall. Then the curtain lifted and,
as the FAB 5 rolled the track, Fiona took the stage. (more
soon come!)
